WHO In-Country Fellowship Program on Health Systems Research

WHO India Country Office approached the Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), Jaipur to design and conduct WHO In-country Fellowship Program on Health Systems Research of 5 days duration. IIHMR Jaipur – a WHO collaborating centre for district health system based on primary health care – agreed to design and conduct the fellowship program. The program enabled the participants to discuss current and future challenges in a setting that provides a rare and unique opportunity to interact with subject experts. The major objective of the program was to better understand the health systems research. This course was designed to help the participants better understand Health Systems Research. The course covered the fundamentals of Health Systems, conceptual framework of Health Systems and its linkages, Health Systems building blocks, purpose and nature of Health Systems. The participants reviewed range of research questions, methodological approaches and study designs that health systems research encompasses, as well as cross-cutting issues pertinent to health systems research. The course covered and discussed the Health Systems in India and issues for further research for improving the performance of Health Systems. The fellowship was coordinated by Dr. P.R. Sodani.
