A Study on Causes of Low Institutional Delivery in Umarpada Taluka

  • Methodology : The study was conducted through primary and secondary data collected from on mothers who have delivered at home during the last one year in Umarpada Taluka.  Mothers who have delivered at institutions during the last one year in Umarpada Taluka. Medical Officers, ANMs, ASHAs of 3 PHC.
  • Findings : Number of traditional birth attendants is more than the skilled birth attendants. 37% respondents complained  regarding  the  inaccessibility  of  the  facility. 34% replied that there is a lack of finance. It was found that the percentage of home deliverers was 69% whereas the institutional deliveries were only 31%.
  • Recommendations : Continuous training of traditional birth attendant (TBA) should be done with back -up from a functioning referral system and support from professional health providers. Proper networking channels should be strengthened between Traditional birth attendants and ASHA/ANM. Staff nurses can be deputed on rotational basis to PHC Kevdi.   The number of 108 emergency ambulance services stationed at Umarpada should be increased, The present health facilities should be upgraded with continuous monitoring from local level and district level.
