A study to find out reasons of high Infants Death in Sagbara block of Narmada district in Gujarat

  • Objective : This study was conducted to know factor affecting IMR in Sagbara and find out ways to protect infants  from  death.  In  view  of  the  above,  following objectives of the study were postulated: To find out the reason which are affecting the Infant death in the Sagbara block in the district Narmada and to find out the feasible solution to overcome identified problem and implement the finding.

  • Methodology : The  Study  is  descriptive  cross  sectional study which carried out employing a Qualitative research tool. Purposive sampling has been done in the study Sagbara of Narmada district. In-depth interview and observation was used to gather perception of the women who has lost her child, ASHA and also the health service providers Based on the findings, some interventions were implemented to increase communication network, accessibility of services and awareness about the available facility.
  • Findings : Lack of awareness about importance of early breast feeding, vaccination etc. They do not know about the government programs running in the districts. Tribal women  prefer  to  go  to  traditional  healers  because  they donít have much faith in the system. Doctors not stay at PHC. Non-availability of link person to inform about the services. Non-availability of communication medium. Poor economic condition and education level of the family restricts to opt for advanced medical facilities.
  • Recommendations : Provide  arrangements  for transportation of pregnant ladies to the hospital or a lady deliver   a   child   ambulance  or   mobile   medical   units, stationed in the area. Mobile phones preferably Vodafone CUG to the ASHAs. Developing IEC and BCC strategies to improve the acceptability of the population.
