  • Agency : BPL Families, RSBY, Health Insurance, Health Care Facilities
  • Objective : In the present study it was thought that RSBY is not reaching to the BPL families in a proper way  and this is the hypothesis of this study. We will check the perception of the BPL families as well as the perception of the services providers about this scheme as perception of these two will play an important role in the success of this scheme
  • Background : RSBY   is   a   scheme   for   BPL   families launched by MoLE in various states of India. Gujarat is one of them. Under this scheme BPL family will get INR 30000 health insurance in a year, so the effective implementation of this scheme is very important. Under this scheme hospitals are the main service providers from where BPL families will seek the health care facilities.
  • Methodology : Present study was conducted in district NARMADA  Gujarat.    Total  700  BPL  families  out  of nearly 70000 BPL families were selected for the study by a scientific method. Schedule were developed for BPL families as well as for services providers to know their perception about this scheme.
  • Findings : The result of the study says that although BPL families are aware of this scheme but their knowledge is limited, so proper IEC should be done to improve their knowledge. On the other hand services providers are not happy with the rate list of general ward and ICU as well as with  the  claim  settlement  time  so  some  improvement should be made in these clauses also to attract more and more service providers.
  • Recommendations : Although BPL families are aware of the RSBY but there knowledge about the scheme is limited so proper IEC should be done. There should be awareness camps in the villages according to the need of the village. Key influential people will be of great importance. With the help of key influential people we can motivate the BPL families to enroll under the scheme. According to the MoU general ware package for doctors under the scheme is INR 500 per day and ICU package is INR 1000 per day but Most of the doctors are not satisfied with the general ward package and ICU package so it should be increased.
In the present study it was thought that RSBY is not reaching to the BPL families in a proper way and this is the hypothesis of this study
