Objective : To conduct rapid assessment for identifying 3 block PHC/CHC for strengthening the quality of family planning services.
Background : USAID is supporting Government of (GOJ) and India to achieve MDG 4 and 5 through MCHIP the project. The USIAD has selected Jhpiego to give technical support to GOJ., in strengthening and mainstreaming of family planning in MNCH in the state of Jharkhand.
Methodology : This cross-sectional study was undertaken in 7 blocks in Simdega district. The MCHIP project is already working in Sadar hospital, Simdega and Simdega Block PHC is located in same campus hence excluded from the selection. Only 6 block PHCs were considered for final analysis.
Findings : There is no considerable difference in block PHCs in following selection criteria like IEC material, records, infection prevention, contraceptive inventory, availability of vehicle and plan for maintenance of equipments. Hence, the selection was based on the Human resource, infrastructure, examination room and service delivery at block PHCs/CHCs. The Thetaitangar, Bano and Kolebira have optimum human resource (Doctors, Staff Nurse and ANMs) to provide family planning service. The Thetaitangar, Bano and Kolebira score high in infrastructure and examination room. Thetaitangar, Bano, Jaldega has good service statistics as compare to other block PHCs/CHCs. Though the service statistics play important role, for strengthening the family planning services at block PHCs human resource and infrastructure are basic requirements so Thetaitangar, Bano and Kolebira block PHC/CHC were selected.
Recommendations : The gaps identified in services delivered, infection prevention, IEC, human resources, record keeping, and contraceptive inventory are to be improved as per the standards set by the facilities.
