Digital Strategy and Transformation of Health Systems

Digital Strategy and Transformation of Health Systems
January 08-10, 2025
Program Coordinator: Dr. Suresh Munuswamy

Background

Over the past two decades, many health systems and services including hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, health care supply chain, home care services have adopted digital technologies in their various functional areas. In many cases, however, they take a piecemeal approach to numerous digital technology initiatives—from installing electronic health record (EHR) systems to building apps to trying disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI)—while remaining largely focused on the same business and customer models. Health care’s digital transformation lags behind that of other service industries, which have largely become digital first or digital majorly. What is the larger picture, can it be a integrated, coordinated development? Can digitization have a larger purpose?
Digital technologies hold great potential for enhancing health care, in terms of empowering patients, improving access and equity, delivering better health outcomes and systemically changing the face of health care. This course, Digital Strategy and Transformation of Health Systems aims to help learners unlock digital health’s potential to improve health care by providing a framework to enable learners to think strategically about the larger purpose, larger architecture, develop a model that can help then to slot the existing and in development digital solutions in a integrated and coordinated model. The course also helps learners understand the larger architecture with in the Indian and developing country’s, context of health care’s unique culture and ecosystem, and navigate the sometimes competing needs of health care’s multiple stakeholders.
The digital transformation of healthcare includes changes related to the internet, digital technologies, and their relation to new therapies and best practices for better health management procedures. The quality control of massive data collected can help improve patients’ well-being and reduce the cost of services. Digital technologies will also impact medical education, and experts will deceive new ways to train people. Digital transformation is an ongoing process that can create opportunities in the health sector, provided the necessary infrastructure and training are available.

Contents

Over a period of 3 days the program will focus on three perspectives:

  • Patient perspective learning: About unmet medical needs and patient experience, the patient perspective on the value of a digital solution, explore how implementation of a digital solution contributes to user experience and outcomes, navigate the potential of digital solutions to improve access but also the new barriers to care.
  • Physicial and institution perspective: Understand the physician perspective on patient-facing digital solutions, Appreciate the unique aspects of designing and implementing institutional (like hospital) digital solutions, Understand key concepts in the development pipeline for AI and generative algorithms, Explore data life cycle, responsibility and trust beyond existing regulations, and integrating digital solutions into human and clinical workflows.
  • Health system perspective: Explore the multidisciplinary trends shaping the future of health care, “Look over the horizon” and anticipate how digital solutions will shape new ways of delivering health care in the future Understand the importance of sourcing comprehensive, coordinated and contextual data in enabling a digital future for health care, Understand the potential roles of new entrants in health care (e.g., tech, consumer retail, e-commerce) in the future of care delivery and health care, Appreciate how health care transformation will involve digital tools but also interconnected networking across the one health ecosystem, climate change and net zero future.
