Dr. Subhash K Hira
Dr. Subhash K Hira
Adjunct Professor
Professor Dr. Subhash K. Hira is internationally recognized for his contributions to public health, bringing over 45 years of distinguished experience in infectious diseases, epidemiology, and global health. After earning his medical degree from Medical College, Vadodara, he pursued extensive specialized training. This included a Diploma in Dermatology & Venereology, Diplomate in Venereology (London), Fellowship in Tropical Medicine (USA), and a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.
Currently, Professor Hira holds dual appointments as Distinguished Professor of Public Health and Infectious Diseases at the Public Health Foundation of India and as Affiliate Professor of Global Health at the University of Washington. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held numerous prestigious positions—among them Pro Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Mission University of Health Sciences and Professor at the University of Texas School of Public Health. His service extended to senior roles with the World Health Organization and the World Bank, where he contributed to shaping national and international health programmes.
A pioneer in HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment, Professor Hira was instrumental in establishing programs across India and Africa while contributing to national HIV/AIDS control strategies. His impact on capacity building has been substantial, with more than 50,000 healthcare professionals trained under his guidance. Beyond training, he established centres of excellence and provided technical support to governments and international agencies worldwide.
His scholarly contributions include authoring over 100 scientific publications and books, and his work has earned him prestigious recognition including the Presidential Medal for Excellence in Research and Gold Medal at the International AIDS Conference.
Drawing from decades of experience as an educator, researcher, and global health leader, Professor Hira offers exceptional depth in infectious diseases, epidemiology, health systems strengthening, and pandemic preparedness—expertise that continues to shape public health practice worldwide.
