International Admissions

IIHMR University takes pride in providing multidisciplinary education in healthcare areas to our international students. The faculty members and researchers working at IIHMR University come from varied backgrounds including, but not limited to medicine, public health, management, economics, statistics, demography, human geography, social and behavioural sciences, development and pharmaceuticals. This disciplinary diversity enables us to generate a holistic understanding of health, developmental, and public policy systems.

Structurally, there are four schools that house our faculty. The university continuously upgrades its academic offerings and services to meet the evolving demands of the global workforce.

IIHMR University, Jaipur agrees in principle to admit Foreign Nationals/NRI students to any of our schools which offer Post-Graduate and PhD programme in different fields on an annual basis to provide educational opportunities for Foreign Nationals/NRI students.

A Foreign National: Means an Individual who has citizenship of a foreign country (Citizens of all counties other than India) and not having the status of “NRI” and/or “person of Indian Origin” (PIO)

Person of Indian Origin: Means a Person having foreign citizenship (Except Pakistan and Bangladesh) Without “NRI” Status, but who holds a foreign passport at the time of sending application, consideration for admission ad during the period of his study and he/she or anyone /both of his/her parent(s) or anyone/both of his/her grandparent(s) is (or was) are (or were) citizen(s) of India by virtue of the provisions of the constitution of India or section 2(b) of citizenship Act 1955 (Act No. 57 of 1955)

Non-Resident Indians (NRI): “NRI” in this context means Non-Resident Indian as defined in Income Tax Act, 1961 with the following clarifications: An individual is Non-Resident when he is “not a resident” or who is “not ordinarily resident”. A person is treated as “not ordinarily resident” when any of the following conditions is satisfied: If he/she has not been resident in India in nine out of ten preceding years; or If he/she has not been in India for a period of 730 days or more during the preceding seven years.

Students Information

Status of Foreign Nationals/NRI:

Foreign Nationals /NRI students are categorized as follows:

  • Sponsored by the Govt. of India (through ICCR) on cultural exchange program.
  • Sponsored by the home country of the concerned Foreign Nationals/NRI students and/or funding agencies
  • Self-financing direct entry (with the clearance of Govt. of India)
  • NRI students

Qualification

The qualifications required for eligibility for admission to the different programmes can be checked in detail from the information brochure or university website. The minimum educational qualification for admission of Foreign Nationals/NRI in various programmes is same as for Indians.

Only those students who have qualified from Foreign Universities or Boards of Higher Education, recognized as equivalent by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) are eligible for admission. When required, a reference will be made to AIU to check the equivalence.

(a) Regular Programmes:

All the Foreign Nationals/NRI students will require a student visa endorsed to only IIHMR University, Jaipur for joining full time programmes. No other endorsement is acceptable. The visa should be valid for the prescribed duration of the course.

International students staying in India longer than 6 months are required to register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). The following documents are required for registration:

  • Photocopy of the passport and initial visa
  • Four photographs of the applicant
  • Details of residence in India
  • Bona fides certificate from the university/college/institution
  • Proof of Bank account/sufficient funds for non-scholarship students

(b) No-objection:

Foreign Nationals/NRI students do not require to submit a No Objection Certificate for joining professional courses, however all Foreign Nationals/NRI students willing to undertake any research work or join a PhD programme will have to obtain prior security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the approval of Department of Secondary & Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and must be on the research visa endorsed to this institution.

(c) Medical Test

All Foreign Nationals/NRI students will have to undergo a medical fitness test before taking final admission. Medical test report should show that the student does not have any contagious or infectious diseases including hepatitis B, chest infections and heart disease. Chest X-ray must be attached with the report.

(d) Medical Insurance:

It is advised that all Foreign Nationals/NRI students take a medical insurance policy to meet the expenses of medical treatments (which are not available in the university health center) during the stay at the university. A copy of the said insurance policy should be submitted at the time of final admission. There is a medical facility available on campus and further medical aid will be made available from hospitals nearby.

(e) Proficiency in English

  • Students have to pass the qualifying examination in English medium
  • Students have a valid score in proficiency test in English like TOFEL and IELTS.

Refund Policy

  • In case of Visa rejection or if a student withdraws from the course, fee deposited by the candidate will be refunded as per the University norms. If a candidate leaves after commencement of the course, he/she will not be entitled for fee refund except caution money.
  • Applicant can write to internationaladmissions@iihmr.edu.in for refund with proper reason, once the admission session is over. IIHMR University accounts department will process the refund after getting the consent from IIHMR University International Committee members.
  • The fee will be refunded once the original fee receipt, ID card (if issued) and any other documents as required by IIHMR University are submitted by the student.
  • Refund shall be made within 45 days from the date of refund application only by cheque (account payee) or online transfer in favor of the concerned applicant.

Supernumerary Seats

21% supernumerary seats in all courses will be reserved for international students including Persons of Indian Origin. Out of the 21% supernumerary seats, 7% will be reserved for NRIs.

Rules framed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and notified on its website www.ugc.ac.in will be followed for deciding the eligibility and admission of international students to various courses offered by IIHMR University.

Note: If the seats reserved for NRI/Sponsored Candidates are not filled, the vacant seats will be offered to general category candidates from the merit list.

Health Requirements

All applicants are required to submit, along with their applications, a certificate of good health from a licensed physician based on a medical examination performed during the same year of the application.
