Area of Research
The research programmes at IIHMR University have mainly focused on policy, health programmes, health systems and population management. These studies were mainly surveys, operational research, programme evaluation, and implementation science.
Salient Features of Research Work
IIHMR University has conducted several research studies that have influenced various policies and programmes.They are as follows:
- IIHMR University conducted a national study on salt iodization led to universalization of salt iodization in India
- The evaluation study of National Polio Surveillance enabled the government to change and strengthen the organization structure and human resources for eradication of poliomyelitis.
- Evaluation of Global Fund in 16 countries across all continents helped The Global Fund to re- strategize the prevention and control of malaria, tuberculosis and HIV especially in the developing countries.
- Evaluation of National AIDS Control Programme helped in re-designing of NACP Phase III
- Evaluation of National Leprosy Eradication Programme in India helped WHO and GoI to declare elimination of leprosy in India.
- Evaluation of National Tuberculosis Control Programme helped in implementation of revised operational strategies in India
- Global Resource Flow Study for HIV and Reproductive Health in 160 countries provided necessary inputs to UN for increasing allocation of funds to these programs.
- Evaluation of Health Systems and Technical Support to Ministry of Health, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan helped in restructuring and strengthening of health care in Afghanistan
- Future Health Systems in five countries for strengthening health systems with the support of DFID has provided opportunities to test research innovations to improve and strengthen health systems
- Integrated drinking water and sanitation brought safe drinking water to 350 villages of Churu district of Rajasthan and established new models of public-private-people partnership in managing water resources at the local levels.
Currently IIHMR University is implementing projects of high national importance, which are:
- Food Fortification in Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab to combat widespread micronutrient deficiencies
- Future Health Systems for Poor (FHS) in West Bengal
- Resource Flow Analysis for Reproductive health and HIV globally with United Nations
