Outline of the Expert Talk

Aajeevika Bureau’s specialized institutional initiative towards providing services, support and security to rural seasonal migrant workers, with a strong focus based on the belief that rural-to-urban migration which is an inevitable socio-economic reality, especially for those unable to generate a meaningful livelihood from rural resources. The talk shall showcase its exclusive mission aimed at improving social and livelihood opportunities for migrants while developing services and policies for their advancement, and also through registration and issuance of identity cards for migrant labourers, allowing them to access banking, mobile telephone services, and government and citizenship entitlements. Further, the organization’s services towards skills training and job placement for rural youths, through the trade-based collectivization of migrant workers from the disorganized sector, Aajeevika to lend greater voice to this often neglected group, especially in the covid 19 scenario would be pivotal to the discussion;

Profile of the Distinguished Expert

Khandelwal Rajiv is the Co-Founder and Director of Aajeevika Bureau. Rajiv holds a degree in Management from Institute of Rural Management Anand (1987). He held coordination and leadership positions over 10 years Rajiv has written and researched extensively. He further served in an advisory capacity to various institutions. After a two year stint in East Africa in early 2000, Rajiv returned to Udaipur to establish Aajeevika Bureau in 2004 and Rajasthan Shram Sarathi Association in 2007. In recognition of the ideas underlying Aajeevika Bureau and RSSA, Rajiv was nominated as an Ashoka Fellow in 2005 and was awarded Social Entrepreneur of the Year by Schwab Foundation in 2010.Under his leadership, Aajeevika Bureau has pioneered a range of solutions for vulnerable migrant workers and households - photo ID, skill training, legal aid, financial services, health care and destination support. He was elected an Ashoka Fellow in 2005 in recognition of innovative ideas to address problems of seasonal migrant workers, and received the Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Schwab Foundation (2010);
