November 11 - 13, 2024

Background

Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), which include which includes cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, and chronic respiratory diseases, kill 41 million people every year, which amounts to almost three-quarters of total annual global deaths. Of these, more than 15 million deaths occur in the age groups of 30-69 years. 85% of such deaths are in low- and middle-income countries.
NCDs are also responsible for considerable morbidity among patients in terms of disability, complications, and economic burden. There is, however, strong evidence that investing in high-impact interventions offered early on to patients with NCDs is extremely cost-effective because of the potential to considerably reduce the need for more expensive treatments.
The importance of managing NCDs is underscored by the fact that the SDGs target a one-third reduction in premature deaths due to NCDs by 2030. Efforts to address NCDs demand a skilled and well-informed cadre of professionals who can effectively design, implement, and manage NCD programs. These diseases require a comprehensive and strategic approach to prevention, management, and control.
To meet this need, we are pleased to introduce the Management Development Program (MDP) on "Managing and Implementing NCD Programmes."

Objectives

The programme aims to provide an overall understanding of the epidemiology and burden of NCDs and equip the participants with the necessary knowledge, concepts, and skills to manage and implement NCD programmes efficiently.
The specific objectives of the programme are as follows:

  • To equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to develop comprehensive NCD programmes, including prevention, screening, treatment, and monitoring.
  • To augment the participants’ understanding of strategically managing NCD programs with a focus on resource allocation, policy implementation, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, and evaluation.
