REPORTING POLICY
The Criteria for Disease Outbreak News
Purpose
Outbreak communication is an important public health function because communities need timely and reliable information to understand health risks and take appropriate preventive and protective actions. This webpage gives an update on ongoing outbreaks in India and other parts of the world. The purpose of this initiative is to give an overview and basic information on the ongoing outbreaks of public health importance.
Sources
The data presented here is collected from reliable sources such as Government websites, WHO and CDC.
We verify the information received from media / other sources and try to ensure that only reliable and verified information is published if the same is confirmed by reliable sources as mentioned above. Such verification might take an additional 24–48 hours. It is however advised to visit the source sites of the Ministries, WHO and other health agencies duly acknowledged and referenced in the outbreak news for the latest updates.
There is provision for periodic updates on an outbreak currently under reporting on the webpage and such updates are published whenever there are significant changes in cases, deaths, location, response or outbreak status.
Active outbreaks are reviewed at least weekly and fresh posts are made accordingly.
Archiving
An outbreak may be considered for archiving after at least two maximum incubation periods have passed since the last reported case or significant update, provided there is no evidence of ongoing transmission.
