The faculty members and researchers working at IIHMR University come from varied backgrounds including, but not limited to medicine, public health, management, economics, statistics, demography, human geography, social and behavioral sciences, rural development and pharmaceuticals.
The Centre for Behavioural Sciences (CBS) is dedicated to advancing the application of behavioural science to public health and social development challenges. The Centre works at the intersection of research, policy and practice to understand behaviour, generate evidence, develop and test people-centred solutions, and support their integration into programmes and systems.
CBS undertakes work across the following areas:
CBS conducts formative, qualitative, mixed-methods and implementation research to understand behaviours, lived experiences, social norms, service-delivery gaps and implementation contexts. This includes evidence synthesis, rapid assessments, situation analyses and stakeholder and systems analysis.
CBS applies behavioural science frameworks to identify the factors influencing behaviours. The Centre uses methods such as behavioural barrier analysis, journey mapping, behavioural segmentation, stakeholder mapping and service-user experience assessment.
CBS engages communities, service users, frontline workers, programme managers and policymakers throughout the design process. Through user research, co-design workshops, prototyping, testing and refinement, the Centre develops solutions that are contextually appropriate, acceptable and feasible to implement.
CBS develops and tests behaviourally informed interventions to improve individual and community behaviours, service delivery and programme outcomes. These may include counselling tools, job aids, digital solutions, SBCC materials, community-engagement approaches, reminder systems and redesigned service processes.
CBS develops monitoring and evaluation frameworks and undertakes process, outcome and impact evaluations. The Centre examines intervention reach, acceptability, feasibility, implementation fidelity, behavioural outcomes and potential for scale-up, while supporting continuous programme learning and adaptation.
CBS strengthens the capacity of students, researchers, programme teams, frontline workers and policymakers through training, workshops, technical mentoring and academic programmes. Key areas include Behavioural Insights, Human-Centred Design, qualitative research, intervention design, implementation research, and monitoring and evaluation.
CBS supports governments and development partners in translating behavioural evidence into policies, programmes and implementation strategies. This includes technical inputs for programme design, implementation guidance, development of standard operating procedures, stakeholder consultations and scale-up planning.
CBS translates research findings into accessible and actionable knowledge products, including policy briefs, technical reports, implementation guides, academic publications, case studies and learning resources. The Centre also facilitates dialogues and dissemination platforms that connect researchers, policymakers and practitioners.
CBS collaborates with government departments, United Nations agencies, development organisations, academic and research institutions, civil society organisations, CSR foundations, communities and programme implementation partners.
Through these collaborations, CBS contributes to the development of evidence-based, people-centred and scalable solutions for complex public health and social development challenges.
Undertake secondary reviews, rapid diagnosis, full scope behavioural insights-based research design and deliverance in an iterative and collaborative approach.
Analyse distinctive behavioural patterns, cultural norms, and decision-making tendencies and craft relevant, customized interventions. We also undertake pilot interventions to assess efficacy and facilitate the scaling up of successful initiatives.
Deliver seminars and customised programmes for government officials and various stakeholders including academia, civil society, and pre-service institutions to support an evidence-centric culture for decision making and community engagement.
Anchor knowledge management and exchange amongst various stakeholders and research institutions, building a local talent network and community of Behavioural Insights and Human-Centred Design experts and enthusiasts.
