Study on Assessment of Implementation of Free Diagnostic Initiatives (FDI) in Reducing Out-of-Pocket Expenditure in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh

Agency : NHSRC

Out-of-pocket expenditures (OOPE) on healthcare impose a significant financial burden on people, contributing to a range of economic challenges, including the risk of catastrophic expenses and increased poverty. Expenditure on diagnostic services also plays a significant role in this heightened out-of-pocket expenditure (OOPE). To address this issue and promote accessibility, the Free Diagnostic Initiative was launched by the Government of India in 2015. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on individuals by providing free diagnostic services. The states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have been pioneers in offering free diagnostic services since 2013. IIHMR University is conducting Study on Assessment of Implementation of Free Diagnostic Initiatives (FDI) in Reducing Out-of-Pocket Expenditure in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh with following objectives:

  1. To assess the type and extent of services provided under FDI in Rajasthan & Madhya Pradesh.
  2. To assess the implementation of the FDI in reducing the out-of-pocket expenditure for healthcare in Rajasthan & Madhya Pradesh
  3. To develop a comparative model of OOPE in public and private facilities at district level.
