Health Care Associated Infections Preventive Measures

Background

The constantly rising rates of healthcare associated infections pose a significant concern for patient safety and healthcare institutions. These infections not only increase morbidity and mortality rates but also escalate the cost of services for both patients and service providers.WHO surveys in 2017-18 and 2020-21 showed no improvement in global IPC programs. Only 15.2% of healthcare facilities met all minimum IPC requirements and only four out of 106 evaluated countries (3.8%) having all essential IPC measures in place at the national level in 2021–22. Inadequate infection prevention and control practices also contribute to the rise of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The repercussions of AMR extend beyond health systems, imposing substantial costs on both national economies and public health. Recognizing the need for preventive and proactive measures, an online certificate program has been developed. The curriculum covers healthcare-associated infections including recent research, evidence-based practices, and innovative prevention measures.
