Understanding the Intersection: Climate Change, Sustainability and Public Health
Background
Climate change significantly impacts the environment, leading to adverse effects on public health, ranging from increased air pollution to extreme weather events and the spread of infectious diseases. Sustainable practices are essential for mitigating these impacts and promoting resilience within communities. By integrating principles of sustainability into public health strategies, we can develop resilient systems that safeguard both environmental and human health. The Climate Change, Sustainability, and Public Health course that we are going to offer has been designed to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance careers in the public health sector and specialize in this particular domain. This course covers a wide range of topics, including pollution control, risk assessment, relevant case studies, the effects of the environment on public health, and sustainable development. By enrolling in this course, participants will gain valuable insights into addressing environmental challenges, techniques for environmental monitoring and analysis, and promoting the well-being of both learners and communities.
Course Objectives
- To have a comprehensive understanding of climate change science and its impacts on the environment.
- To understand of the various environmental threats to public health resulting from climate change.
- To acquire skills to analyse the social and economic determinants of health exacerbated by climate change.
- To evaluate existing policies and propose solutions to mitigate climate change and protect public health.

The course is spread over 3 months (28 hours) from November, 2024 - January, 2025 with weekly 2 hours live classes and assignments
