Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India is conducting CAPI based National Family Health Survey-4 (NFHS-4) in all 35 States and Union territories of India. NFHS-4 is being undertaken with the main objective of strengthening India’s demographic and health database by providing information that is both valid and reliable.

MoHFW, GoI has entrusted IIHMR, Jaipur with the task of conducting household interviews in 22 districts of Madhya Pradesh-East for NFHS-4. As per the estimate, 19,780 households from 989 PSUs of MP-East were covered under this survey. Each district had 43-86 Primary Sampling Units (PSUs) covering rural and urban representation as per the percentage of rural and urban population of the state.

Apart from household interviews, Clinical Anthropometry Biochemical Testing (CAB) tests were also done on selected respondents. The CAB component included measurements of height, weight, blood pressure, haemoglobin and random blood sugar for men, women and children in the selected households. In a subsection of the households, blood samples (using Dried Blood Spots techniques) were taken from men and women for HIV testing.
