Situational Analysis of Lymphatic Filariasis Cases in Three Endemic Districts of Madhya Pradesh

The study was undertaken to understand the important factors enabling and hindering the elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis activities in the three highest endemic districts of Panna, Rewa and Chattarpur in Madhya Pradesh. Two blocks were chosen from each study district.

A line list of cases was analyzed. Lymhoedema cases with elephantiasis and/or hydrocoele were examined and interviewed. Based on the study findings, the recommended interventions included regular updation of line list of Lymphatic Filariasis cases, refresher training to staff, increased IEC and BCC activities amongst community members in endemic areas, night blood sample surveys at community level hot spots, integrated vector management and strengthening of Morbidity Management and Disability Prevention (MMDP) of chronic cases.
